Looking to meet your weight targets and still enjoy the summer? We’ll make it easy, try out these easy weight loss tips for the summer lifestyle.
If it’s Colorful, Don’t Drink It
This is a great rule when encountering alcohol, punch or any time of summer drink. Look, we don’t want to take your summer beer away from you, but the general role for alcohol is to avoid it when you want to shed the pounds. The worst drinks on the last as far as calories go are the pretty cocktails that are loaded with sugar. Even nonalcoholic drinks can easily pile the sugar on during the summer. So make a simple rule: Don’t drink the colorful ones. Stick to beer, or a simple vodka cocktail, or similar drink options when going out.
Walk It Out
Because the weather is so much better during the summer, it’s a great idea to swap your ride for a walk. See if you can commute on two feet when planning destinations. Take your lunch break in a nearby park and walk there to shed a few more calories every day. Even better, park a bit away from your destination and enjoy the weather as you walk the rest of the way. This way you get to enjoy the summer to its fullest while still meeting your dieting goals and shedding pounds.
Go on All Those Summer Adventures
Try not to say no to any summer adventure. Whether it’s camping, hiking, visiting a waterpark or heading down to the beach, saying yes is a good idea. You see, all those events involve plenty of activity that can help you burn extra calories. The good news is that you will probably be having so much fun with your friends that you may not even recognize all the exercise you are getting.
Drink Water
Does drinking water actually help you shed pounds? It may do a lot more good than you think. You see, when you drop weight your body is busy sweating and breaking down fat cells. Drinking lots of water helps flush out all the leftovers and keep you hydrated, which in turn keeps you hydrated and filled with energy. Also, you are more likely to get dehydrated in the summer heat through any activity. So no matter what your goals are, remember to drink lots of water!
Switch Out Dessert with Fruit
Summer is filled with delicious options for fruit, from watermelon to fresh oranges, honeydew, strawberries and so much more. There are so many fruit options and great ways to use them that you should really consider replacing all your desserts with fruit. It will still taste great, but your calorie count will go way down – and at barbecues and other events, fruit is usually readily available.
Time Eating with Daylight Hours
This is a new trend that’s gaining momentum for summer weight loss. Summer days are some of the longest days in the year, which gives you plenty of light for activities and meals. Also, eating later or when it gets dark tends to encourage you to eat more (and do less to work the food off). In other words, try a diet that includes only eating when it’s light outside. When the sun goes down, just stick with water or another healthy drink.
Grill the Lighter Meats
Grilling meals are quintessentially summer, and while grilled vegetables are super healthy, sometimes you really need to eat some meat. If you do grill, eat the whiter meats – chicken, fish, etc. They have fewer calories per serving than red meats and are generally healthier for you.
